Domestic Violence advocate Lisa Jenkins: The voice for the voiceless

“You are enough”

Mother, wife, and grandmother, Lisa Jenkins is using her life experiences to empower victims of domestic, sexual, and child abuse through her organization, Kingdom Builder Family Life Center (KBFLC) based in Colorado Springs. Lisa has worked with survivors and their families for the last 25 years and started KBFLC 15 years into her career. As we begin to reflect on Lisa’s impactful career, we begin where it all started– in her own household.

“God if you allow me to live, I’ll spend the rest of my life helping those in similar situations.”

In 1994, twenty-four year old Lisa had been in an abusive marriage for 5 years and nearly escaped death. Once she left, she found herself trying to navigate her new life with her 3 children. Lisa’s sole focus was creating a better environment for her and her children. She found herself trying to overcome stereotypical barriers and protecting her children who were emotionally affected by the ordeal. It also affected her trust in her current marriage. She credits therapy and education for helping her understand what she was going through and helping her marriage thrive.

Also as a Black Woman in Colorado, there weren’t many in that position, she found herself constantly proving herself and showing her worth while intentionally making sure those who came to her door were supported– by  bringing on a team to reflect those being served and never giving up. While Lisa face many obstacles over the course of 30 years, she  kept her faith in God and soon knew he would guide her down the right path

Kingdom Builders 10 years in the making

At the rise of Kingdom Builders, Lisa was a seasoned advocate with the government full time, where there was a scarcity of resources. She knew in order to effect real change, would be to remove herself from her full time commitment and secure resources to help Kingdom Builders thrive– which she did! In 2018 Lisa was awarded a grant and was able to resign, putting full force behind KBFLC as CEO. This momentum allowed Lisa and KBFLC to connect with other established agencies and get victim services fully funded– with local, state, and federal assistance. “Now I am able to provide the resources survivors need.” She states, “In order to eliminate a person’s [domestic abuse]  situation, you have to have the financial aspect to support them. We can all say we want to help, but if we can’t provide housing, financial assistance, emergency services and other aspects that a survivor needs, then they’re less likely to leave.”

The Kingdom Builders impact

Lisa shares that Statistically 1:4 Women + 1:7 Men report abuse, while 1:5 Youth have been exposed to domestic violence and 1:12 high schoolers are involved with teen dating violence. For adolescents affected by an abusive environment, it’s likely that 90 percent of them will become harmed or harmful themselves. At Kingdom builders they help youth recognize that this behavior is not okay and educate them on the importance of healthy relationships.

In her personal and professional experience, Lisa says advocacy means a lot to the community. “When you’re in that moment, all your power and independence is probably taken away.” So to have someone that says I may not exactly understand what you’ve been through, but I want to help.

Bringing Awareness-

April marks Sexual Assault and Children Abuse Awareness months which is a focal point of KBFLC. The organization hosts weekly cake and conversations where participants can tour the facility on Wednesdays and learn how they can best support the organization. In light of their 10 year anniversary,  KBFLC is hosting their Race Against Violence 5k in August with their two-day Domestic Violence conference and 10 year anniversary Gala slated for October.

I am Lisa Jenkins Legacy

While Lisa continues to walk in her purpose she is now introducing all of her layers to the world through her “I am Lisa Jenkins” Brand through speaking engagements and interviews. I want to be able to help– I am a helper and a server. Lisa is using the tools God has given her to help other mothers, individuals, and families. She wants to use her personal experience as a voice for those in need. She is currently gearing up to release her debut podcast and also hopes to have satellite offices across the country reflecting the advocacy being done at Kingdom Builders.

Scott Howard: Pioneering a New Genre of Music for Healing and Awakening

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down with Scott Howard, a musician, and pioneer of a new genre called Source Music. His music is prophetically conceived, influenced by the celestial beyond and performed at 432 Hz. Scott’s upcoming album, Angel Numbers in 432Hz, is a collection of songs that carry a healing message he believes will be needed in the future. In this interview, we delve into Scott’s life and career, his spiritual awakening, and the impact music has had on his journey. We also discuss his new album, his approach to writing music, and what he hopes his musical impact will be. Get ready to be inspired by this unique artist and his uplifting message.

Music has been a major element throughout your life. How would you define music and what it means to you?

As a child, my family was more musically inclined than most.  My mom, was an opera singer and founded Long Island Lyric Opera.  We used to have monthly family gatherings called “cousins club,” where we would all perform for each other around the piano downstairs. I always found myself at the top of the staircase, yearning to perform for the older adults and prove that I had something valuable to bring to the table.

Throughout my life, I’ve defined my experiences in terms of sounds of music, using them to describe the events and emotions of my journey through songs and albums. I’ve noticed that the music I listen to during major life changes often mirrors the higher frequencies of those events. For instance, the first time I fell in love, got my first car, or even tried smoking pot (lol)… had a specific sound and feeling to it. Learning to play guitar, writing my first song, performing the bassline in the jazz band, and even participating in a play in Baldwin Junior High School all had their own unique sounds, bringing both ups and downs to my life.

Where do you draw inspiration from when writing your songs?

When it comes to writing my songs, I usually draw inspiration from strong emotions and experiences of pain that I didn’t expect to affect me as they did. The music I create is prophetically conceived, with specific words and melodies that correspond to chakra points and bring out events that I believe will occur in the near future.

For example, I wrote a song called “Harvest Blessing” on my album “The Language of Clouds” four years ago or more, and it talks about a storm being over and being blessed by Mother Earth’s tears while “the sunrise comes as the trumpets herald the new birth”. At that time, “the Storm” wasn’t even a point of discussion.

On my upcoming album “Angel Numbers in 432Hz,” I have several songs that I hope will resonate with people who are seeking answers, healing, or hope. One of the songs, “We Are Forever,” talks about fighting atrocities against the human race and finding hope and faith in a touch or a kiss. Another track, “A Gods-Land,” addresses the current state of the world and the need to let go of mental crosses and start winning the coin toss. And, “It’s Our Time!” speaks of the keys to the kingdom being in a higher vibration, with a focus on raising our third eye sights and achieving the highest destination.

I hope my music can offer something meaningful to those who need it and that it resonates with their experiences and emotions.

How did your spiritual awakening impact your life and ultimately your career?

My spiritual awakening began on August 4th, 2017, with the activation of my hypothalamus. This transformative event was quite lonely since it separated me from my immediate family who were not on the same frequency as me. We all receive and experience things in life based on our individual frequency in this holographic matrix, and my awakening enabled me to see and hear things that others were not able to experience.

Regarding my career, many people are now going through what I’ve been through, and synchronicity often brings them to places where they can resonate with and receive the answers they need to hear or heal from. My music, which is an ancient genre created through Source in 432Hz, has resonated with people all over the world, and I am excited to share my new album, “Angel Numbers in 432Hz,” with everyone. A mini music concert video and promotional material for the album will be available for pre-order on my website, www.scotthowardmusic.com.

What inspired your successful 2018 album “Ascended Man”?

“Ascended Man” is a ten-song chapter book that tells the story of the tragic loss of my son Maxx due to an accidental drug overdose. At that time, I was seeing the numbers 8888 everywhere and didn’t understand their meaning. I always seem to know the names of my albums ahead of time, and the loss of my son – “My Beautiful Ones” (song on my upcoming album, Angel Numbers) devastated my entire existence. I found myself in my studio for months, writing songs to help me find answers and heal while hopefully helping others who have experienced such a trauma, as there will be many more who will face such losses in the future. I hope to help as many people as possible resonate with their awakening, regardless of the answers they may need.

Outside of your hits, you have also managed to pioneer a new genre. How did that come about?

My spiritual awakening opened my eyes to the power of music and how it can influence our frequency and emotions. This realization led me to pioneer a new genre called Source Music, which is influenced by the celestial beyond and performed at 432 Hz. I believe that this frequency has a curative effect on the mind and soul, and it has been used by some of the greatest musicians in history, such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach.

I draw inspiration for my lyrics and music from the universe, and I believe that they are prophetically conceived. I often receive messages or inspiration for my lyrics that relate to events that I feel will occur in the near future. These “spells,” as I like to call them, have the power to bring relief and healing to those who need it most.

Overall, my spiritual awakening has had a profound impact on my life and career. I’m dedicated to sharing my music and message with the world and helping others raise their frequency through meditation and music.

What can you tell us about your upcoming project Angel Numbers?

My upcoming album Angel Numbers is a collection of songs that I wrote years ago based on my life experiences. Each song is like a chapter of my life, and they all carry a healing message that I believe will be needed in the future. The titles of the songs speak for themselves, and I’m excited for everyone to go on this mad hatter’s ride with me.

In addition, we’re going to release a 2-song music video and promo trailer in the next few weeks that should give you a taste of what to expect from the album. You can pre-order Angel Numbers in 432Hz on my website, scotthowardmusic.com, and you can listen to some of the samplers as they become available.

If you’re looking for my previous works, my World Ascension Tour LIVE at Village Studios in 432Hz in vinyl is available now for shipping. You can also check out my other albums like Ascended Man, The Language of Clouds, and The Zen of Planets, which are available for purchase on my website either as CDs or digital downloads.

What are some of your favorite things about being a musician?

As a musician, one of my favorite things is performing on stage and sharing my music with others. I first fell in love with performing at age 11 when my stepfather managed my rock band, The Gemini 5, and we played for Maimonides School for Special Children. Even though, at the time we sounded terrible, seeing how much the children enjoyed our performance was a life-changing experience for me. Throughout the years, I was inspired by my mother’s performances in operas and my own experiences performing in school plays. Seeing how music can and have enriched and soothed people’s hearts gave me hope that my music can also make a positive impact in the world. Being able to manifest pure love on stage is a gift that I believe only comes from Source, and I hope to continue to use it to bring light and illuminate the audience.

Music is something that leaves a lasting impact on society. What do you hope your musical impact will be?

As a musician, I believe that my purpose is to help the entire spiritual soul group grow and make changes for the good of humankind. Throughout history, music has had a profound impact on society, from the big band era to the Beatles and beyond. However, I’ve noticed that in recent times, music has become a reflection of the generational cancer that is slowly rotting our society and family values. I want to change that by creating a new/ancient genre of music from a place of love gifted by Source in 432Hz. This new genre can help raise the vibration of our earthly realm and awaken people to the truth of our lives. I believe that music has the power to heal and rebuild a world based on positive energies, allowing spells of love and light to enter our improved minds in the kingdom of the 4-5D human. My ultimate hope is that my music will enable those in need to heal and cleanse the darkness from their lives. I want my music to resonate with people and lift them up, even in times when all hope seems lost. My upcoming album, Angel Numbers in 432Hz, is my contribution to this cause, and I hope it can manifest miracles by the infinite.

BE LIGHT!

The Power of Inner Child Healing: An Interview with Juniper Jillian Joy

Juniper Jillian Joy, a former blues artist turned life coach, author, and proponent of healing one’s inner child, shares her moving story of transformation and self-discovery. In this interview, she talks about how her faith has influenced her work as well as her experiences in overcoming childhood trauma. Joy’s new book, The First Story of Intentions, is a fantasy fiction fable based on her own life events. She shares from her journey to wholeness and self-acceptance in order to spread her message of hope, faith, and belief. Prepare to be inspired by Joy’s inspiring testimony of inner fortitude and resiliency as she guides others to practice self-love, self-care, and self-trust.

Q: Who is Juniper Jillian Joy and what are three words that you would use to describe yourself?

A: I am the “Inner Child Warrior.”

Juniper is my inner child’s name. Jillian is the teacher in me. Joy is what I intend to bring to myself and everyone everywhere through my books and sharing openly, vulnerably and intimately.

Q: What inspired your pivot from blues artist to life coach and financial strategies to now an Author and an advocate for inner child healing?

A: I spent most of my whole life fragmented due to childhood emotional trauma that caused me to be emotionally unavailable and stunted. As I healed my trauma, I healed my inner child and became whole within myself. I could no longer live the life I had been living. I went from a life of limitations to limitless possibilities that can only be described as miraculous. It’s just too amazing to keep to myself! I want everyone to know how to heal their inner child so that everyone everywhere can live in peace, love and joy!

Q: You have overcome many trials from your childhood and your former marriages. What motivated you to keep going?

A: I have always enjoyed learning. Once I transformed my life, I no longer needed outside validation, motivation or inspiration. I knew I was living my divine path, plan and purpose. Now I have the assurance of peace, love and joy in all areas of my life, knowing I am my own True North along my new journey inside myself, for myself, to myself. My motivation is my desire to serve others as a teacher and guide.

Q: Tell us about The First Story of Intentions: The Introduction to the Inner Child.

A: The First Story of Intentions is written as a fantasy fiction fable based on true events in my life that have been carefully crafted and woven into of each main character to show the complexity yet simplicity of situations that we all experience throughout our lives that leads to self-acceptance, self-discovery and self-awareness as the guide to self-trust, self-love and self-care building hope, faith and believe through our own perception.

Q: How has your faith influenced your work?

A: I have found faith to be two-fold for me. My faith in God helped build my internal faith for self. Being raised Pentecostal by my mother who was a spiritual warrior, a leader, a beautiful singer, beautiful inside and out, a prophetess and processed an amazing wisdom far beyond her years, just like her mother, the prayer warrior. My mother loved unconditionally. It was felt by everyone that ever met her. By having these two powerful women in my life and growing up with my mother teaching me how to recognize and use my gifts and talents with empathy as I see the blockages that hold people back from their intended destiny. Being present to see and feel my granny and mother talk to God in prayer, guide others to God’s love and light was the very foundation that has made me…me! I know I’ve lived on my granny and mothers’ prayers long after they passed away. I knew there would come a time that I had to take responsibility for myself. My journey began when I lost my voice for a solid year and told God, “If you give me voice back, I will use it for you!” After a year of speech therapy, my voice came back stronger than ever before and now I am the voice for the voiceless as I live, teach others through my songwriting, singing and writing my books to heal their inner child until each person can find their voice, speak their truth, stand in their power and create healthy boundaries and limitations in all areas of life through the inner child connection.

How Health and Technology is Allowing Yusuf Henriques to Innovate the Podcast Industry

As a lifelong advocate for minorities, Yusuf Henriques is a GeneUs who was able to create innovations to create solutions across multiple industries with his background in health and technology. He is now using his previous experiences to innovate a market that’s virtually uninhabited by those communities– the podcast market. As co-founder of the ALIVE Podcast Network, he successfully blends health, tech, and entertainment as a leader and host to elevate the community once again.

Henriques is a Jamaican native who was destined to be a dominant force in the STEM industry. From an early age he was intrigued by the industry. He knew the periodic table by age 8 and was always fascinated with chemistry and physics. Yusuf says he spent a lot of time watching popular scientist Doogie Howser. He blew through medical school at 12 and went on to help senior scientists and medical doctors discover disease and other medical conditions affecting his area.

This would inspire him to create the innovative healthcare brand IndyGeneUS which helps to solve disparities in Black and Brown Communities. He notes that these groups were affected by the pandemic 4x more than the majority in the US and he found that the underlying condition was the lack of government funding causing major devastation to those communities. Yusuf even spoke on this for MIT’s Hacking Racism Listening Summit where they tried to hack some of the structural racism in healthcare. He was later inspired to create the same impact in a new market.

Yusuf’s extensive career has allowed him to work across multiple industries, most recently the streaming industry. After the height of the pandemic, Yusuf met and partnered with ALIVE Podcast Network CEO Angel N. Livas to combine their efforts of elevating Black and Brown communities in a unique way.

With social media being a great way to express yourself and share content, there was a common theme presented with each platform- the lack of protection and capitalization for the Black and Brown communities. As an advocate for Black and Brown communities, Yusuf states that the company’s target audience and mission was the driving factor for supporting the double minority owned imprint.

The ALIVE Podcast Network provides a safe haven to minority creatives while educating them on protecting their content and putting dollars in their pockets. They proudly introduce a unique, user-friendly experience whether you’re a subscriber or host. This is represented in their e-commerce market where they can monitor buying patterns to rotate wealth with the community. Hosts can also receive podcast education, and share a 50% revenue split with their host.

Not only does Yusuf serve as an executive for the platform but he also doubles as a host with the Gene-US Health Minute. He and Livas break down sophisticated medical terms and what they mean for us in 5 minutes or less.

As an active advocate walking in his purpose, Yusuf’s efforts are leaving an impact in our daily lives. He states he wants his legacy to be that “I want to leave the world a little better than he found it.” His impact is sure to help Black and Brown creatives catapult economically.

Why Janice Laws Robinson is the people’s choices as the next Insurance Commissioner of Georgia

This year voters in several states are headed to the polls to select their next set of representatives. One of those states includes Georgia, where one of their races is very historical. Candidate Janice Laws Robinson is the Democratic Nominee in what could be a monumental race for The Commissioner of Insurance and Fire Safety. With over two decades of insurance under her belt, Janice is running to help create a more quality and sustainable Georgia. Janice is well versed in all lines of insurance and actively helps families rebuild their lives.

Janice Laws Robinson, Democratic Nominee for Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner of Georgia

Coming from a service background, it was a no-brainer that Janice would select a career that would allow her to change lives. She states, “when I became a Georgian over two decades ago, it was an opportunity to serve my community and take on a new career in a new industry… it [insurance] became a way for me to interact with people and serve others with their needs.” She is now tackling this issue head-on at a larger scale in her candidacy for Insurance Commissioner.

As an active insurance professional, she has seen the direct impact of the skyrocketing insurance premiums on Georgia families. She notes insurance is not a party issue but a people issue, as this office can affect everyone’s daily lives. She says if there is a crisis, someone has to stand up and handle the problem and realize that she was that “someone.” Currently, Georgia has some of the highest auto insurance premiums in the country and over 1.4 million citizens without access to health insurance, and a tedious claims process.

Janice’s campaign focuses on 3 A’s- Affordability, Accessibility, and Accountability:

She will work to provide affordable insurance premiums, access to affordable health care, and hold insurance companies accountable.

She first ran for office in 2018, where she became the Democratic Nominee and came within 3 percent of winning. She credits her successful run to those who understood her commitment to the people of Georgia. Janice views this opportunity as “the next level of serving my industry and doing the greater good for a larger number of people.” This year’s race is historic as it could be a year of many firsts. Janice would be the first African American woman to serve in this capacity, and Janice would be the first Democratic Insurance Commissioner since 1994.

If selected as Georgia’s next Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner, her duties would include:

  • Regulating insurance prices
  • Holding insurance accountable
  • Issuing licensing for individuals hoping to practice insurance
  • Overseeing fire safety, such as ensuring buildings are safe and preventing fire hazards

Looking from 2018 to now, Janice has learned a lot. She realized if the people are for you, then nothing else matters. Her focus remains clear, and she is staying strong. To learn more about Janice, follow her on social media @janiceforgeorgia and visit her website at janiceforgeorgia.com.

Election Day in Georgia is November 8th. To check your voter status and find your nearest voting precinct, visit https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/

Industry Veteran Set to Premiere “Two Classes of 1968” Doc at 2022 BronzeLens Film Festival

Veteran TV & film development executive and producer Nichelle Protho is proud to premiere her directorial debut “Two Classes of 1968,” a poignant documentary and important untold story of black history, in the upcoming 13th Annual BronzeLens Film Festival. Amidst the backdrop of the civil rights movement, the film, produced and written by Protho along with co-writer Monice Mitchell Simms and narrated by Hill Harper (“The Good Doctor,” “Get on the Bus”), chronicles a group of African-American Catholic school students from Immaculate Conception Academy High School (ICA) in Augusta, Georgia who became unwitting agents of social change as the first group to integrate Aquinas High, an elite white Catholic school. “The debate around Critical Race Theory has only increased my passion about being historically literate, and especially about my community and its people.” says Nichelle Protho.

“Two Classes of 1968” tells the story of a close-knit group of childhood friends & students from the Golden Blocks neighborhood – a proud & self-sustaining Black community near the Savannah River.  This bubble provided a safe haven for its children, free from the darker realities of racism and the residual affects of post slavery era Jim Crow. However, when the powerful arms of the Catholic Church intersected with the Brown vs Board of Education Decision, they were forced to leave behind their school and the nuns that loved them just before their senior year.

“This film not only serves as a historical document, it provides an exceptional jumping off point for frank discussions of race today. It is a perfect resource for every age, but especially useful in secondary school settings,” says Joseph Floyd, M.D., executive producer and member of the class of 1968. “Although this is a story about the past, it encourages important discussion about today’s issues and it resonates courage and perseverance that is incredibly relevant today,” added Terrye Thompson, executive producer and member of the class of 1968.

Prior to premiering at the BronzeLens Film Festival, the film has received tremendous support from the city of Augusta, the Augusta Museum of History, Catholic Diocese of Savannah and the historical Imperial Theater.

About the festival: BronzeLens Film Festival is a non-profit organization, founded in 2009, that is dedicated to bringing national and worldwide attention to Atlanta as a center for film and TV production for people of color. The mission of BronzeLens is two fold: to promote Atlanta as the new film mecca for people of color; and to showcase films and provide networking opportunities that will develop the next generation of filmmakers.

The documentary screens on Friday, August 26th at 11:00am ET in Theater 3 at the IPIC Theater Colony Square in Midtown Atlanta.  Film festival pass registration and event tickets are available at: https://bronzelens.eventive.org/schedule/two-classes-of-1968-62da29ac8cc26d005c5a6e3a
