2024 Pink Frog Gala Celebrates Resilience, Hope, and Community Support

On a beautiful Friday evening, October 4, 2024, the Martin Luther King International Chapel at Morehouse College was transformed into a sea of pink for the annual Pink Frog Gala. The room buzzed with anticipation and warmth as breast cancer survivors, supporters, and community advocates gathered to celebrate life, strength, and hope. For many, this night was more than just an event—it was a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of unity in the face of adversity.

 Founded by Tammy L. Bolton, a breast cancer survivor, and her husband, Robert H. Bolton, the Pink Frog Foundation, Inc. has become a lifeline for countless women and men battling breast cancer. Their organization provides essential services like meal preparation, emotional support, and transportation assistance to breast cancer patients undergoing treatment. The foundation’s goal is to ease the burdens of these patients and to offer a network of support and compassion during some of life’s most challenging moments.

 The gala featured an evening of performances celebrating life and resilience, with music, poetry, and dance taking center stage. A highlight of the evening was a powerful performance by renowned gospel artist Ricky Dillard, whose soulful voice moved the audience and set a tone of inspiration and faith. The event also paid tribute to Sharmen May Gowens, the Immediate Past President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Atlanta. She was honored for her unwavering support of the cause.

 The VIP reception prior to the main event was a sophisticated affair. Light bites were served as guests mingled in an ambiance filled with shades of pink, symbolizing both the cause and the spirit of hope. Mrs. Gowens was recognized for her impactful work in the community, and her words of gratitude underscored the significance of the evening.

 As Tammy and Robert Bolton remain committed to their mission through the Pink Frog Foundation, this year’s gala was a heartfelt reminder of the strength that comes from unity, compassion, and community support. The evening highlighted the power of coming together for a cause greater than ourselves, with each step forward bringing us closer to a future where breast cancer no longer poses a threat. Raleigh, NC, was alive with music, joy, and vibrant energy on Saturday, June 22, 2024, as the 5th Annual Soul Picnic took center stage at Dix Park-Flowers Field. Known as North Carolina’s largest outdoor day party, this year’s event did not disappoint. Hosted by the seasoned event organizers Dynasty5, who boast over 25 years of experience, the picnic was a masterful blend of local talent, renowned headliners, and DJ Skillz on the 1 & 2’s. 

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the performances. With his smooth vocals and soulful tunes, Musiq Soulchild captivated the audience, bringing both nostalgia and excitement. The Chuck Brown Band, famous for their unique go-go sound, kept the crowd dancing and the energy high. Adding to the thrill of the day, Mr. Cheekz made a surprise appearance, much to the delight of the attendees. 

The event was more than just a musical feast. It was a community celebration featuring a diverse range of vendors that catered to every taste. From delectable food vendors to unique merchandise, there was something for everyone. Local artisans and small businesses had the perfect platform to showcase their businesses, contributing to the inclusive and community-filled atmosphere. 

Raleigh’s news outlets highlighted the event’s success and the significant positive impact it had on the community. Attendees were all smiles, enjoying the sun, music, and camaraderie. The Soul Picnic again proved why it’s not just a staple in North Carolina’s event calendar, but also a significant contributor to the local community.

 Coach Martez and Woodrina, founders of Healing Hearts Healing Homes, Inc., a 501(c) non-profit organization, strive to strengthen marriages within communities to help decrease the divorce rate and provide stability in families so that children can experience a healthy two-parent household.

Breathing Fire Back into Your Marriage

 Using the tools God put on his heart to save his marriage, Coach Martez decided to walk with his wife, hand in hand, to face their challenges and embrace the good times they share. Affirming one another through coaching and counseling, the Laytons rebuilt their marriage by understanding their purpose and practicing forgiveness. These initiatives led to other couples joining them on this walk, and many years later, the Married 4 Life Walk is still breathing fire, not only into marriages but into communities.

 Marriage ambassadors Ron and Shamari DeVoe have been dedicated to the walk as they have experienced the challenges of a marriage. With the help of the Layton’s coaching and counseling strategies, they forged through and sustained their marriage, leading to the birth of their beautiful children.  As a testament to not giving up, the DeVoes have a deeply rooted passion for the promise of marriage and unity as they have worked through their marital roadblocks. They want to see other couples live out their purpose with happiness and fulfillment and not give up on one another.

 Since the beginning of the Married 4 Life walk, couples have journeyed to draw inspiration from other couples and reignite the spark in their relationships. Atlanta’s World Changers Church International recently – hosted an electrifying gathering of women at the annual Bloom: A Radical Women’s Conference, curated by Pastor Taffi Dollar. Spanning two days, from March 14 to 15, this transformative event exceeded attendees’ expectations, featuring an impressive lineup of speakers, workshops, and performances aimed at inspiring and empowering women to embrace their uniqueness and cultivate empowerment in every aspect of their lives.

The conference was also fueled by soul-stirring performances, featuring a stellar lineup of musical performances. Grammy-winning singer Samara Joy, Tye Tribbett, and Da’Dra Greathouse captivate audiences with their magic.

Repositioning for Growth: The Season of Bloom

The conference started with excitement and anticipation as women from all walks of life gathered to immerse themselves in a two-day commitment to fostering their growth and self-discovery. With a tagline urging attendees to “be fresh, be bold, be empowered,” Bloom set the stage for a journey of transformation and empowerment.

Throughout the event, attendees were treated to insightful talks and engaging workshops led by industry experts and thought leaders. The Black Women Film Network (BWFN) has long been a beacon of inspiration and empowerment for Black women in the entertainment industry. With a rich history of championing diversity, equity, and inclusion, BWFN continues its legacy of excellence with the announcement of its esteemed honorees for the ninth annual BWFN Summit.

 This highly anticipated two-day event kicks off Friday, March 22, with a Short Film Festival at Auburn Avenue Research Library. Saturday, March 23, will proceed with the Summit and Luncheon from at the prestigious Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia. It promises to be a celebration of talent, resilience, and the transformative power of storytelling.

Honoring Trailblazers and Innovators

 The 2024 class of honorees represent a diverse array of trailblazers, creatives, and industry leaders whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the entertainment landscape. Among this year’s honorees are:

 Lena Waithe is a Emmy-winning writer, producer, and actress known for her groundbreaking work on “The Chi,” “Master of None,” and more. Waithe will be honored with the TrailblazHER award for her fearless storytelling and commitment to amplifying marginalized voices.

 Mona Scott–Young is the CEO of Monami Productions and the creator of the iconic “Love & Hip Hop” franchise. Recognized as a RainmakHER, Scott-Young has paved the way for countless women of color in the entertainment industry.

 Gail Bean is a rising star of the screen, acclaimed for her performances in “P-Valley” and NAACP Award recipient for “Snowfall.” Bean will receive the Black Woman Rising award in recognition of her talent and dedication to her craft.

 Raamla Mohamed is the creator and showrunner of the hit series Reasonable Doubt. She will be honored with the StorytellHER award for her exceptional storytelling prowess and commitment to authenticity.

 Amber Rasberry is a senior executive in film development, production, and acquisitions at Amazon Studios. She will be celebrated as a PowerbrokHER for her instrumental role in shaping the future of cinema.

A Platform for Empowerment and Advancement

The BWFN Summit is more than just an awards ceremony—a transformative experience designed to empower and uplift Black women in the industry. From dynamic workshops and panel sessions to networking opportunities with industry leaders, attendees will have access to invaluable resources and connections.
