Liang Wang: A Man And His Oboe, On A Mission

Sure, we all know about clarinets, trumpets and saxophones, but what about the oboe—the mysterious woodwind instrument? What about the Nation’s most decorated oboist?

Liang Wang is the world’s “it” oboe guy. If you didn’t already know, today you’ll gain a knowledge wrinkle on your brain. 

Liang is a renowned Chinese-American Oboist with the New York Philharmonic. Coming from a musical family, he had a passion for the arts from a young age. His dedication and discipline to the arts can be seen in his list of accolades. From being the Alice Tully Chair to being accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music, his achievements are nothing but exceptional. 

With the blessing of his family, Liang moved alone to The United States at the young age of 15. He came to this country solo, but with a dream. He wanted to be on that stage, and in the spotlight. During his time at Idyllwild he was the Jack Smith Award Winner at the Pasadena Instrumental Competition, a two-time winner of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Fellowship, and a winner at the Spotlight Competition of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. All of this led up to his acceptance into the Curtis Institute of Music, one of the most prestigious conservatories in the world.

After completing his studies he joined the New York Philharmonic as Principal Oboe in 2006. He has had  a fruitful career over the decades. Some of his performances include his debut performing Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto, led by Xian Zhang, in Hong Kong during the Orchestra’s 2008 tour of Asia, his Carnegie Hall solo debut in April 2011 performing Chen Qigang’s Extase, Mozart’s Oboe Concerto with Les Violons du Roy, China Philharmonic, and Shanghai and Guanzhou Symphony Orchestras. One of his most memorable moments was in 2014, President Xi invited him to perform with the Orchestre Colonne de France at Versailles, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of French-Chinese diplomatic relations.

As life would have it, Liang would experience some personal and career turbulence followed by the global health crisis. Liang decided he would channel his energy and create something positive during hard times via his masterclass with eConnect123. A virtual learning platform, eConnect123 gives students easy access to top musicians and artists. He wanted students from all backgrounds to learn, not just a select few with exclusive access.

As Liang triumphs toward 2022, he continues to perform with the Santa Fe Music Festival, The Philharmonic, The Vail (Colorado) Music Festival and other elite engagements.

Jazmin The Great: The Business of Beauty

Handling the pandemic as a business owner is no easy task. As we all watched the news and social media through the global health crisis, we saw that some businesses triumphed and sadly, some sank. Skin Vegan Medspa in Atlanta’s prestigious Buckhead District  found a new way to cater to more customers.

Her previous “Skin” monikered brands had always been successful businesses, but the owner and CEO, Jazmin wanted more people to be able to enjoy her luxurious Spa. She constantly saw the hustle and bustle of clients, ranging from everyday people to celebrities like Cardi B. and Porsha Williams.

In 2020, the 30-something multi-preneur decided to transform the Skin brand to enhance the aesthetic sector with elevated products, services and a microfocus on organic ingredients, fresh product offerings and health conscious services. With the new health conscious additions, the Medspa has now included a juice bar which includes organic fresh and cold pressed juice and spritzers. The juices are result driven and directly promote a better immune system, beauty, energy, digestive system, anti-aging and stress relief.

 

 

Beauty influencer and Instagram celebrity, Jayda Cheaves

When talking to the owner and CEO of Skin, Jazmin, she states “What makes Skin different from any other spa is the multitude of services available to customers. We are a one stop shop, we don’t just offer skincare services but nails and hair too.” Skin caters to all women but especially to women of color. “Women of color and of all ethnicities are being misdiagnosed and often given products that were never created for their skin or skincare issues.” Jazmin aims to fix that.

Skincare should help everyone, not just a select group of people.

In addition to the spa services, Skin offers Medspa services that include injectables, chemical peels, body and laser treatments. The spa’s Medical Director, Dr. Alan N. Larsen is a board-certified plastic surgeon who also owns his own plastic surgery studio. His work has been highlighted in Best Self Magazine, Jezebel and The Atlantan. 

On top of all of this, Jazmin is owner of her brand, Life of G.O.D.S. She is a force to be reckoned with. She owns and runs her 2 businesses while being a mom to her creative and fun-loving son, Navarro.

United States Army veteran Angelina Cortez understood the assignment! As founder of PETS2GO International, she is pioneering the luxury pet travel experience. 

In 2003, she reached the ceiling of her frustration with the super generic welcome accommodations presented to her as she traveled through different hotels with her beloved cats. In fact, the experiences were so lackluster that she developed her own disposable litter boxes and began making her own pet travel packs. One day it dawned on her that other busy pet owners could benefit from these convenience packs; and it goes without saying that PETS2GO International was born through a labor of love. 

What started as a DIY project for her own benefit, quickly turned into a one-woman operation with Angelina handling corporate sales, inventory, product curation and everything in between.  Fast forward to 2021, the company has grown exponentially, and carries the reputation of the premier high-quality, pet amenity gift pack supplier to major hotel chains, hospitality companies and more.

Since inception, P2G proudly dons a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business badge and is a member in good standing with the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Administration and the Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association.  Headquartered in Miami, the company’s fulfillment center (located in Stockbridge, GA) is a sprawling 30,000+ sqft multi-use facility that houses inventory, a full-service executive business center, a pet-friendly cabana, palm trees, a waterfall and even a pet focused podcast studio. Ebony Karim: Government Contracting Expert & Serial Entrepreneur

Born and raised in the Midwest, Ebony Karim  comes from a strong, close-knit family that encouraged her to be educated, assertive and to operate in excellence. She hails from a long line of courageous, hardworking individuals who paved the way for many others. Her paternal side of the family was among the first African-American families to settle and establish land ownership after being freed from slavery. This powerful background influenced not only her life but career.

Her pursuit of higher education did not stop after she graduated from Chicago State University. She went on to the University of Maryland University College, followed by earning certificates from the prestigious Wharton School of Business.

After years of working in the field, Ebony started her IT consulting firm in 2013. She had vast knowledge and insight  after supporting private industries and federal agencies as a consultant for 10 years. Through this business she provides public and private sector clients with high-end, full-service professional consulting. With 20+ years of experience, the firm effectively strategizes scalable solutions to enhance organizational infrastructure.

Ebony has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. She shares,“ I never saw myself as a longtime employee.” She always had the dream of working for herself. The experience and knowledge that her career gave her  is what propelled her forward into her next step. Establishing Embarkus Solutions and later on, Emabrkus Wellness.

After starting Embarkus Solutions, she created Embarkus Wellness, which focuses on a 360 degree approach to wellness  focusing on your physical being, nutrition and mental health.Ebony thought all parts of wellness were crucial to focus on which is why this project was very important to her. It started with a partnership with a childhood friend who is an expert in nutrition and fitness. They brought both of their expertise to create and execute the program.

With all of the work she’s done in D.C, Ebony dreams of expanding to other Urban cities across the United States.

Aside from her professional achievements and personal accomplishments, she prioritizes quality time for her 4 children—who have always been her greatest motivation.
